First introduced in 2012, we will again be offering a short course for young people & their guardians at Erindale Pond (possibly other locations to be added). This course is designed for kids 9 to 15 years old and each kid must have a parent or guardian (grandparent, aunt, etc.) in the course with them (there may be up to 2 kids per adult). This will be a fun 2 hours that will cover some basic aspects of kayaking. Class size is limited to 6. The cost of this session is $30/person which includes kayaks and all equipment except kid-sized PFDs (see comment below).
Conducted by a Paddle Canada-certified instructor, we will incorporate some paddling games to keep things moving quickly.
Some of the skills we will introduce during this 2 hour session:
- How to make the kayak go straight
- How to turn a kayak
- How to fit a kayak (especially how to fit kids in kayaks)
- How to fall out of a kayak
- How to spray your parents/brother/sister/kayak instructor with a kayak pump
You must bring a PFD or life jacket that fits your child well. Although I have adult-sized PFDs to loan, I do not have child-sized PFDs available.
If you would like more information, feel free to contact us.
