Kayak Lessons

PC Basic Kayak Skills (June 12th)

Join us on the South Saskatchewan River for a day of learning the basics of kayaking in this Paddle Canada-certified course.

  • Saturday, June 12th, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Gabriel Dumont Park, Saskatoon

** In case of bad weather (storms, high winds, lightning) making paddling unsafe, we will delay the course or a portion of the course. If we are able to, we will continue the course into the evening. If we must, we will re-convene the next day to finish. Please plan some flexibility into your schedule to allow for weather delays.

In the Basic Kayak Skills course we will provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to begin kayaking and set the foundation for many years of efficient, healthy, and safe paddling.

Regarding COVID:

  1. If you have ANY COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home and let me know. I will try to accommodate you in an upcoming course after the symptoms have cleared. If symptoms appear after the course, please contact me ASAP (email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
  2. Masks will be required at ALL times when we are on shore in a group.
  3. We will maintain spacing when on the water and on land to minimize risk of transmission.
  4. During this course we practice rescues where rescuer and the swimmer are in moderately close contact for the duration of the rescue. You are encouraged to sign up with a partner with whom you can work on rescues to further limit the potential spread of COVID. If you sign up as an individual, you will be assigned one other paddler to work with.
  5. Please get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect me, protect the other students, and to protect yourself.

Gabriel Dumont Park is off of Saskatchewan Crescent West which can be reached at the west end of 8th St. or Taylor St. There is a parking lot here and a washroom facility, as well as a nice sandy beach area for easy launching and landing.
