Based on the Paddle Canada Basic Kayak Skills course, this is a shorter session for those that don't want to commit to a full Basic Kayak course, or aren't sure if kayaking is for them and gives students an opportunity to try out kayaking for the first time in a controlled setting. This course offers some of the most basic concepts used in recreational flatwater kayaking but is not designed to be a comprehensive course. You will be introduced to the basics of kayaking rescue techniques (how to get back in your kayak after a mishap), will learn how to launch a kayak, and will be introduced to kayak strokes. All required equipment is supplied.
This fun 4+ hour clinic will focus on the following techniques (content will vary a bit depending on the group and as time allows):
None. This course would be suitable for kids 12 or older.
Maximum of 6 participants (class will be cancelled if there are not at least 3 people registered 2 days before the course start).

Gabriel Dumont Park is off of Saskatchewan Crescent West which can be reached at the west end of 8th St. or Taylor St. There is a parking lot here and a washroom facility, as well as a nice sandy beach area for easy launching and landing. Depending on the lesson and the weather, I may have a tarp set up near one of the picnic sites.
