It's a busy weekend and the warm weather has come just in time. I'll be helping out on Saturday, May 4th from 11 am to 4 pm at the Classic Outdoors Demo day at Erindale Pond, at the corners of Kenderdine & Kerr Roads. Then, on Sunday, May 5th from 12 to 4 pm I'll be at the Saskatoon Canoe Club Open House at the boathouse in Vicrtoria Park answering questions and taking registrations for kayak lessons.
There's a new paddling instruction company in town. My good friend Mark Larfontaine has been teaching canoe lessons for several years and this year has formalized things by creating Maskwa Paddle Co. He builds beautiful hand-carved paddles and teaches canoeing. Check it out if you want to learn to canoe or want a beautifully functional paddle.
p.s. The good-looking model posing with one of his paddles in the photo in the header of his website, that's me.
The snow on the ground suggests that winter is here and that the outdoor paddling season is long gone (unless you have a dry suit and good rescue skills in freezing water). In the winter of 2013 we are planning to offer a couple of introductory clinics as well as a couple of rescue practice sessions, all in the pool of course! Getting these scheduled is a "work in progress," but stay tuned for news of the latest offerings soon. If there is something in particular you want to see, let me know!
Here is a video interview I did a couple of years ago for CBC following Red Cross National Life Jacket Day. Actually, they barely used any of the interview they did with me. You can also read some of my comments regarding the interview at my personal blog at http://pawistik.blogspot.ca/2010/05/national-life-jacket-day.html.
